Breast Reduction: Reduce Back And Neck Pain

Breast reduction surgery reduces the size of your breasts. Although all
women who are unhappy with the size of their bosom may consider this
surgery, this surgery will especially benefit women with large bosoms
who suffer from back pain.

Women who feel self-conscious because of the size of their bosom or have
health problems due to the size and weight of their bosom are
candidates for this surgery. A larger bosom can make it more challenging
for some women to exercise or participate in other activities. The
surgery can make women feel more comfortable.

During the breast reduction procedure, the doctor will eliminate extra
skin and tissue to reduce the size of your bosom. You can suggest your
desired size, and the doctor will make recommendations. Once you agree
on a size, you should feel that your chest is the correct size for your
height and weight. Although your surgeon will tell you whether or not
you are a good candidate for the surgery, non-smokers who feel that the
size of their breasts cause back or shoulder pain or experience
irritation can be ideal candidates. Likewise, women with stretched
low-hanging breasts are also likely candidates for the surgery.

Prior to the surgery, your surgeon may recommend that you do not smoke.
You may be asked to discontinue the use of some medications, such as
anti-inflammatory medications and certain herbs. You may also be asked
to use certain medications in preparation for the procedure.

When you arrive at the hospital for the procedure, the staff will
prepare you, asking you to remove your street clothes and wear a gown.
The surgeon will create incisions in your bosom to remove the unwanted
skin and tissue. The placement of the incisions is determined by your
individual needs and the surgeon’s recommendation. It is common to make
incisions around the areola. The areola will later be placed in a
different position so that it will look more natural on the resized
bosom. Using liposuction is also an alternative for the procedure,
according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.

Although the incisions from the procedure are likely to fade, unsightly
scarring is a risk associated with the surgery. You can also get an
infection or have an adverse reaction to the anesthesia. In some cases,
patients have difficulties breastfeeding or suffer from persistent pain
from the procedure. Your bosom may have an irregular shape due to the
surgery, and there are some cardiac risks associated with the procedure
as well. Ask your surgeon about other risks and complications associated
with a breast reduction.

Following your procedure, the doctor will instruct you on how to care
for your bandaged wound. You will be prescribed some mediation to
prevent infections and to reduce pain. Be sure to follow the doctor’s
directions. You may also have stitches that require removal after the
surgery. Your doctor will likely ask to that you do not lift heavy
objects or participate in rigorous exercise immediately after your
surgery. Your surgeon will let you know when you can safely resume your
normal activities.
